Quick Deadline for
Kitchen Remodeling Project

In the May Newsletter we are featuring a kitchen remodeling project completed on the East brow of Lookout Mountain for the Tollett family. Besides being a beautifully designed and finished project, it is notable for the speed with which the remodeling was completed. The project required that the kitchen be extended into an adjacent room and windows were added to bring in additional light. From demolition to project completion, it lasted approximately one month! T.U. Parks was the construction company and Arch Willingham was the General Contractor.

Stone Source was responsible for the countertops, sink and wall tiles on this project. The kitchen countertops are honed, absolute black granite which gives them a lustrous, matte finish and won’t show fingerprints, dust or crumbs as easily. The wet bar is a polished absolute black granite to give it a slightly different feel from the kitchen. Absolute black is much more uniformly black or dark grey in appearance than other dark or black granite.facebook

The sink and island were fabricated from a 2.25” Calacatta Luna marble slab. We, once again, used a honed finish by sanding the surface of the stone with diamond pads. The farmhouse style sink was constructed of 5 pieces of marble laminated together.

Besides being visually stunning, marble makes a very functional sink, and if chips ever do occur, they can be sanded out with diamond pads. All the countertops were given 2 coats of Dry Treat stone sealer and won’t need to be treated again for 15 years.676837416310
The ceramic wall tiles are from the Hampton Collection of Adex and have a crackle finish. They were installed from countertop to ceiling, helping to define the entire kitchen area with the classic subway tiles.

Completing this job in one month required superior coordination from the General Contractor and great communication between everyone involved.

All sub contractors had to properly estimate their installation times and be prepared to work when they were scheduled. We made sure all of our supplies were in-house before the project began so lack of materials never became a problem. Stone Source installed 120 ft2 of countertop, the custom sink and wall tile in a 4 day period. With the right team, effective planning and communication, great results are possible, sometimes faster than you think.

One of our Favorite
Wall Treatments

This recent kitchen remodeling job contains one of our favorite backsplashes and tile wall treatments.  The cabinets were designed and built by Ana Woodworks (Laura Hertle) and the designer for the project was Karen Payne.

The countertops are suede brown granite which is dark granite that has brown and red tones. The slab that was fabricated at our shop was imported by Nashville Granite & Marble. The wall tiles are from the Contessa line of Walker Zanger and are hand painted terracotta tiles imported from Mexico and hand painted and glazed in Arizona. The wet bar and focal area over the stove make use of a complementary filigree tile from the same line and add a wonderful design element to the overall kitchen appearance.

What you can’t really see from these images is how the red tile brings out the red tones in the granite to really showcase the depth of the natural stone. The wet bar also has a beautiful hammered copper sink that completes the look and feel of the area.
